Watergate II? If Cheney is forced to resign, why isn't Bush guilty as well? If it goes that far, how can Bush say he didn't know what was going on? He's part of the sonrpiacy and he's responsible. In any case, I still say Bush will not finish his term. Plus Delay and Rove will probably both go to prison. Delay definitely. Rove probably.

So who would the Ford-Dole type replacements be for Bush-Cheney? They would have to be moderate conservatives who are not too partisan and don't have many enemies. They would also have to be people who would issue pardons on their way out.

I just can't see them using Condi Rice for that. She's strictly a foreign policy wonk. Colin Powell would be better if they want to use a minority. David Dreirer is gay. Condi might be too. Blunt is corrupt. Frist is under a cloud. Rudy Guliani? Who do they have that wouldn't drive people nuts? Jeb Bush? All we need, another Bush.

re: And if the charges are to be about conspiracy, then I think both Bush and Cheney are vulnerable.

Bush was probably out riding his bike while they were conspiring.

I think Al has a very good point, that's getting lost in the details. If this thing ends up in indictments for whoever, then the most important part will still really be why these guys were going through these machinations... they were lying to the American people about the reason for a war and they didn't want the truth to come out. That may be obvious to you and I, but I guarantee it's not obvious to most people.

That's the headline... "Cheney, Rove et al indicted for covering up their lies about the reasons we went to war". That's the fire that cooks the goose.

John

the only reason I can come up with ...

Cheney doesn't want to run for President.
In order to have an heir apparent it could be useful to setup a VP who can run. They tried to setup Frist but he is self destructing. Now it appears they want to setup Condi.
