Libertarians go all the way back to the founding of the republic. Robert A. Heinlein often used the principles in his books, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress is a classical case. Now around the time of Reagan, a pretty radical branch of libertarians started to gain influence, although they themselves were hardly new. Personally, I have a lot of libertarian leanings, but I don't really see where private police and a private judicial system is really going to work. Much less some of the more radical suggestions.
