You didn't have to know that. The talk was all about WMD, "mushroom clouds", the dangers to America from Iraqi missiles with nuclear warheads and so on. Blix and the weapons inspectors made it clear: -- no real sign of WMD -- no nuclear capability -- no ICBMs Powell stood up at the UN with a presentation that almost everyone at the UN understood to be total BS. He more or less betrayed that as well because his speech was a REMARKABLY different direction than the State Dept had been going. It will eventually become clear that the NY Times was NOT hoodwinked. They were acting as a distribution vehicle for government propaganda. EYES WIDE SHUT is a movie title that describes the situation. If the Democrats have been "taken in" so much by Bush, how come they have not been up on their hind legs BITCHING about it? The answer from my vantage point is that they went along semi-willingly and agreed to SHUT UP about any opposition. Support the troops, don't give comfort to the enemy--that sort of thing, you know? None of us knew Bushies were fabricating all that intel. Look back at that time and you will see that many, myself included, showed the intel to be false and backed up our postings with explicit references and links such as: middleeastreference.org.uk "I ordered destruction of all chemical weapons. All weapons - biological, chemical, missile, nuclear were destroyed" Kamel added: "I made the decision to disclose everything so that Iraq could return to normal." (p.8) TP - I was not fooled for a minute, so why was the supposedly better informed Kerry?
