Right. If UN inspectors had had 3-6 more months they could have concluded Saddam had no WMD. Then US troops could have done something less than a full invasion, something like taking the Basra oilfields and taking over the oil-food program, and then pressured Saddam for years until he capitulated. Maybe taking the oilfields in the north too with the Kurds. Once Saddam is without oil, he'd be crippled.

ALmost everyone wanted Saddam gone, but it was very important how it was done to not make matters worse. There was no big rush. Cheney and Bush juiced the intel and lied to as to make a case for rushing in without a plan. Huge mistake and impeachable offense.
