(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton offered the following statement today regarding the indictment of Vice President Cheney’s former chief of staff, I. Lewis Libby, Jr.:

“Obviously, Mr. Libby is innocent until proven guilty, but these are very serious charges. Laws concerning perjury and obstruction of justice must be enforced, especially at the highest levels of government. So often during the Clinton administration these laws were ignored for the sake of political convenience.

“Mr. Libby’s decision to resign is certainly appropriate and he will get his day in court. In the meantime, unlike what happened during the Clinton years, the Bush administration and its allies must resist the temptation to undermine the prosecutor’s important work on behalf of the American people.”

Judicial Watch is a non-partisan, educational foundation organized under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue code. Judicial Watch is dedicated to fighting government and judicial corruption and promoting a return to ethics and morality in our nation's public life.
