The political "realists" believe you "do something" when it is very clearly in your self interest and doesn't cost more than you can afford. Essentially, you do smart things.

Unbelievable ted advocating the US gives up all of its nukes before we can expect our enemies to give up theirs...

Ted, What you and Elroy fail to acknowledge that doing nothing is a legitimate option.

Until something goes horribly wrong ... then even the "do nothing" folks start demanding that we should have "done something."

I take it by horribly wrong you mean 9/11. If "doing something" anything is your only response to something that has gone "horribly wrong", then we should have invaded Mexico rather than Iraq for all that invading Iraq has accomplished. In addition, Mexico is closer......would have made invasion costs much cheaper and Americans troops would have been able to go home on leave during the weekends. Making matters worse, the Iraqi invasion has strengthened al Qaida in a way that many predicted but to which the Bush gov't refused to listen.

And you wonder why so many of us want ABB. These are dangerous times made more dangerous by a cabal of ideologues. We need to get them out of office as quickly as possible.
