I was against the war before it happened. I'm not responsible for fixing what ails it. The supporters of the war are responsible.

That pretty much sums you up doesn't.. Absolve yourself of all responsibility..

Under martial law, Iraq could accept other countries' and UN help for reconstruction. Real elections could be held and the country could be held together until it could raise a real federal security force. We could then send a bill to the Iraqi oil industry for payment.

What right do WE have have to institute martial law in a Soveriegn country?? Iraq has a sovereign ELECTED government (when's the last time 60% of the US population went to the polls to elect their representatives?).

They have a constitution accepted by 16 out of 18 provinces..

Is THAT your solution? Re-invade Iraq and occupy it with even more troops?

I can REALLY see that going over well with the Shi'a, who represent 60% of the population. How could they think anything but that we were playing on re-installing their Sunni oppressors over them?

And what a political coup that would be for Iran.. They'd be able to tell the Shi'a "Hey.. you can't trust the US.. But we'll protect you"... Boom, next thing you know.. Sunni/Salafist Militants aren't the only ones we're fighting..

Get ready for $100/bbl oil as Goldman Sachs has predicted.

You think $100/bbl oil is bad? See what happens when your plan sparks a regional religious war between Sunnis and Shia..

How in the world will a tiny group of jihadists take over Iraq?

Funny.. I'm sure Carter thought the same thing when the Ayatollah Khomeini came back when the Shah abdicated.

And guess what.. that Islamic regime is still in power (although some elements having moderated over time).

And I'm sure Somoza thought the same thing when a small, insignificant group of guerillas, who called themselves "Sandinistas" managed to take over Nicaragua.

But hey.. what about all of those folks who scoffed at that tiny band of fanatical thugs who called themselves "National Socialists", yet managed to destroy the Weimar Republic and launch the world onto a path of death and destruction never previously seen..

You think the economic cost is great now? You ain't seen nothing yet should we all join you sitting on our backsides and playing "Mr. Isolationist" again.

This last time we did that, over 300,000 Americans lost their lives over the course of 4 years..
