The Moose and the Jack-o-Lantern
by Sara

One morning about two years ago, I woke up to the sound of my radio. “I am so tired,” I thought. So I stayed in bed.

My mom marched through the door about 30 seconds later and said, “No matter what, I’m leaving at 8:30!”
“Yeah, right,” I thought and snuggled further under my covers.

About one minute later my mom walked in again and went over to one of my windows and gently pulled open the curtains. She looked out and told me to quietly come over to the window. So I got up and went to the window.
When I got there, I saw two big brown blobs. I rubbed my eyes and the brown blobs turned into moose! There were two moose, a mom moose and a baby moose. They were standing outside eating our jack-o-lanterns from Halloween!

The mom moose was not being very nice and was not sharing the biggest jack-o-lantern, she kept body slamming her baby until he got far enough away that she was satisfied enough to start eating again.

My family and I stayed at my window until sunrise watching the moose chew, chomp, squash, grind, and gulp down the jack-o-lanterns. Then we left to get ready for school. By the time we were all up the stairs we looked out the window and the moose were gone.

The good thing is that my mom did not get too angry when we did not get out the door on time and, as usual, we managed to run into school just as the bell rang.
