Chris, in defense of Hawk, I've never considered him to be an ideological whore. I disagree with most of his conclusions and many of the facts he relies upon but his intellectual process is clearly legitimate. I think that his beliefs have little or nothing to do with his current employment in Iraq.

In addition he tends to counter the arguments of those of us who disagree through the use of substantive content rather than one-line conclusions or character attacks.

Posters like Hawk are invaluable to a true understanding of complex issues. It's only through engaging in the kind of debate he can offer that we can truly test the mettle of the ideas we hold so passionately. Ed

PS, and yes, I know I personally attacked Cummings when he posted the article that claimed we should put the 2.000 Americans who died in Iraq "in context" by comparing that number to other numbers. I'm not sure whether I regret doing that or not. Some things are so repugnant that they deserve moral approbation, even to the extent of personal attacks. But I don't see Hawk as crossing that line. Maybe you do.
