Honestly, I don't think the U.S. will ever have enough clout in the Middle East to be an honest broker. To be that, you have to have cache with both sides. We only have clout with Israel. The Muslims hate us. The problem with the E.U. is that they have a history of siding with the Palestinians. So now we have a situation where there isn't any country on earth that can act as honest broker. So we will have to have a multilateral negotiating regimine. I don't know if the U.N. and interested countries will ever have enough will to see this thing through to peace. I think the only real hope is if a miracle happens and Allah comes down and tells the Muslims to stop fighting to wipe the Jews off the map and accept their right to a sovereign state in the middle of the Muslim world. The other hope might be for the U.S. to tell the Israelis they have 1 year to get out of the West Bank or we stop all aid to their country. Then we tell the Muslims that if the Israelis get out of the West Bank and the Muslims continue to suicide bomb the Israelis, we'll send our own jets to pound the Palestinians. In addition, we'll pound the Syrians and Iranians for instigating terrorism in the region as well.

Ultimately, though, with countries like Iran operating unfettered, we don't stand much of a chance of bringing peace to the Middle East. They act to subvert any peace process by instigating terrorism at every opportunity. So the sad reality is that this war will most probably go on forever. Our best chance is to make a graceful withdrawal, wash our hands of the middle east, wean ourselves off of oil, and gradually reduce our aid package to Israel. It'd be nice if within 20 years, we would have zero involvement with the Middle East, politically or economically.
