Well... I doubt there's a single professional/institutional investor in the world who would consider dollar cost averaging.

I think they promote that kind of thing in order to keep people buying mutual funds that have high-paid management that achieve mediocre returns at fairly high risk, and that most often don't even match their benchmark, much less outperform.

That said, for some people dollar cost averaging is definitely a good idea.
