Even in the mid-90's when I was still a Clinton supporter, I recognized that Clinton was just riding the wave, that he had little to do with reversing the recession that occurred in 1992. Of course, I voted for Clinton in 1996, believing that he was a "moderate" and his political opponents were the "extremists." Only in 1998 did I find out what the first rule of partisan politics is.
