Hi Hawkmoon; Re: "Victory? What's the definition of Victory?"

Iraq not a training ground for Al Qaeda, silly.

Re: "Have we won a "victory" over criminal activity and corruption?"

The military is not a suitable force for fighting criminal activity, corruption, or Al Qaeda. On the other hand, we did have a victory over the enemy in several of our more successful wars.

Re: "What I'm more interested in is when the US can reduce it's military presence here to less than 50,000 people, or better yet, none at all. That will be a victory to me."

Okay, your definition then. When do we have that sort of victory?

Re: "What you think we're doing now?"

Mostly we're pissing off the locals.

Re: "We're capturing people who have been LONG-TIME Al Qai'da operatives, with experience fighting in Afghanistan and long-time associates with Bin Ladin, as well as HIS facilitators."

Why don't you quote the US government publication that estimates the strength of Al Qaeda and shows that it is in decline since the invasion of Iraq. I'm willing to bet that there are CIA reports out there to the contrary.

Re: "If that's not "police work", I don't know what is?"

There are effective ways that the (US) military can contribute to police work in hostile foreign countries. One is by bombing their leaders if they don't do the police work. With Iraq, we broke it so that won't work anymore.
