Come on. UN inspectors(unscom) found, and inventoried tons of WMD after Saddams son in law defected and ratted on him. This was in 1997 and is a fact.

UN inspector were on the ground in Iraq. Some of those inspectors were actually spying for the US.

Why was there a rush to war?

Why could we not have waited until at least when the inspectors made a final report?

What evidence of any kind was there that Iraq had the capability of mounting any kind of attack on the US?

UN inspectors(unscom) found, and inventoried tons of WMD after Saddams son in law defected and ratted on him.

It was in fact, Saddam's son Kamel Hussein who confirmed that any leftover WMDs from the first war were destroyed. He was in charge of destroying them and pointed out a very nasty toxic waste dump where it all went.

Here is the transcript of his debriefing:
casi.org.uk
He discusses chemical and biological weapons about pg. 12-13

The Bush administration asked Blix to keep quiet about his testimony of destroying the weapons. All the while they were touting his testimony (in this very same document) where he talked about the extent of the weapons that had been produced at one time.

The administration told Blix they wanted to keep parts of the transcript secret so that it would provide a double-check of the information that Saddam was giving, but in reality they kept the parts about the weapons being destroyed secret even as they started the invasion.

Once again, Cheney was not misled by bad intelligence, he deliberately lied to start the war. The remaining question is whether he told Bush Jr. or just kept him down on the farm with his bicycles and chainsaw.

TP
pg.13:
We gave instructions not to produce chemical weapons. I don't remember resumption of chemical weapon production before the Gulf War. Maybe it was only minimal production and filling., But there was no decision to use chemical weapons for fear of retalization. They realised that if chemical weapons were used, retaliation would be neclear. They must have a revision of decision to start production. All chemical weapons were destroyed. I ordered destruction of all chemical weapons. ALl weapons - biological, chemical, missle, nuclear were destoyed.

"The commission has not at any time during the inspections in Iraq found evidence of the continuation or resumption of programs of weapons of mass destruction or significant quantities of proscribed items, whether from pre-1991 or later," Blix told the U.N. Security Council in what is expected to be his final report.
