let's not blame the auto industry , it is the consumer who decides what they want to buy.

if demands is for efficient cars then you will see them built.

look at gm and ford sales right now. years of give aways to unions for health care, job protection, retirement benefits that other car mfgs do not have so we are seeing another industry die in the states.

If small cars are here to stay then they will retool. unless the management get stronger against uaw they will be history , we will all be driving cars made in from foreign sources. just like textiles etc.

I have yet to see the car-manufacturers come out with an Advert boasting :
- miles per gallon / efficiency
- safety factors
- environmental protection


I've seen plenty of adds promoting safety factors, they do it all the time.

Adds for hybrids promote miles per gallon and a reduced environmental impact.
