Will ask my wife, she went there many times in her good old Pan Am days.
But then again that's more than 25 years ago.

The poorest and most depressing place on Earth, she said.
I have only been to Bombay and the airport only.

Going anywhere else in India?

Malaria pills - believe the course treatment is around 10 days. But if you plan on going back and forth, the shot is better because it lasts a year or two.

Bring bottled water. Expect to be ill for 2 days, at the start of your trip. Be very careful where you eat. Make sure you chase the porter that takes your luggage, otherwise it may disappear forever... you're better off renting a car (they all come with a driver) but it can take one hour to go 8 miles, so simply hiring a rickshaw is probably a lot better. Don't take a taxi that's not directly associated with a brandname hotel because one out of 200 taxi rides will end up in being kidnapped for a bit (usually harmless where they just take your stuff and dump you in the middle of nowhere, but you don't want to risk it so be careful which taxis you take.) Bring a rag to cover your nose - the smell won't kill you, but it may feel like it will. India is not China - the poverty will be in your face, not hidden from the business section.

Good luck,
Amy J
