"Time to step back to the environmental movement. It should not be a partisan issue."

It didn't have anything to do with partisanship. It had everything to do with expending energy on pointless things and ignoring stuff that is really important. What is the environmental significance of clubbing fur seals? None. Fur seals aren't anywhere close to being endangered, and the number of clubees is small. They focussed on that one because baby fur seals are cute. Do they complain when surfactants are used to clean up oil spills? No. Because, you know, they are cleaning it up.

Technology is critical, for good or ill. To go back to muscle, wind and wood would reduce the carrying capacity of the world back to a couple of hundred million, at best. The only way to preserve and improve air and water quality, guard habitats and provide a decent standard of living for most, if not all, people on the planet is to develop better technology. And that includes genetic engineering.
