"Because nothing is ever one sided."

Ever?

"The people that won also held slaves and some treated them inhumanely to say the least. They also wiped out most of the Indians. They refused to give the vote to women and non landowners."

Very few things are perfect. Some people are bad, and some are good. The haters see the bad in the U.S., and the realists think we have a pretty good model.

"Very Christian of them wasn't it?"

Are all Christians bad iyo? Did only Christians do the things that you think represent the U.S.? Christianity has a pretty positive effect I think.

"And that only because of radicals like the ACLU, Womens Sufferage and Civil Rights activists and those crazy Environmental wackos"

Sometimes the extremists have done good over history. But how does standing up for NAMBLA and erradicating any reference to religion (I mean Christianity) from the public square help us now? The ACLU is an evil group that seems to hate what America is (although they like the perks of living here). You can have 'em.

And I am sure you don't think that "civil rights" folks like J Jackson or A Sharpton help folks now, do you? They keep them in poverty and feed their hatred so they can retain their power base. They have no interest in the folks they claim to represent (other than to maintain their power).

I just want to say one thing in defense of the Southern Plantation owner. I am from the south, I was raised in the south and I have been a student of history my entire life. The North has this IMHO misconnotation as to how slaves were treated. Here is the facts: Slaves were VERY VALUABLE property, it behooved the owner to make sure his slaves were happy, healthy and well fed. To mistreat them only resulted in misfortune for the owner. Its a documented fact that when the Civil War ended, blacks in the south found themselves far WORSE off then before. The North did basically NOTHING to help them out, they were left to fend for themselves, I believe we are suffering TO THIS DAY from that lack of attention and assistance. Freedom is a wonderful thing, but not if your starved to death, or made to work for wages insufficient to care for you and your family, and left with no medical care, no roof over your head and little food to eat. jdn
