strategic marketing wins means that once a toolset is placed into a fab, and is successful, that it becomes the "tool of record" for that fabs chip manufacturing. The longer term benefits are that typically the toolset will remain in use for 5-7 years (or longer). I understand - the point is how to get there, there must be a reason Applied is called the "evil empire" :o) on Don's board some people were wondering why earnings go down while revenue up. There could be many reasons (like mix) but I think predatory pricing and its fallout might be part of it.
