Etch, it has been my contention all along that acquiring
market share dominance, at the expense of earnings/profits,
is not necessarily the best short term financial strategy.
But then, one must also consider that by keeping your
competitors out of key customer accounts it limits their
ability to grow via additional long term equipment sales.
Typically, customers prefer to purchase large package
deals of complimentary technology equipment because they
get significant "package pricing" discounts when compared
to purchasing in single or small lot quantities. The savings
can be substantial, and who doesn't mind saving money?
Again, one must consider the longer term tangible
fnancial and relationship benefits to be gained by the advantage of using the strategy of "predatory pricing".
