The main stream media was pumping out propaganda right and left to keep everybody in line then too. A reading of a social history of WW 2 might show a few more negatives then one might think. As I recall, there were at least 100,000 draft dodgers then.
There was a mutiny in Big Red One when they were stationed in Africa after the African campaign ended. The soldiers all thought that they had done their fair share and wanted to go home and leave the rest to everybody coming in after, as I recall. The division General Terry Allen was relieved.

Considering the main stream media today, I think the VN and current Iraqi guys have/had their S*** together head wise more then the WW2 crowd.
