I don't see how you can say that - it was Saddam that starved the people, not the sanctions. We let him sell oil for food. There's no reason to think he wouldn't have diverted the oil money to other purposes even if the sanctions had been lifted.

That is why I consider the Clinton regime almost as responsible as Bush for the disaster that Iraq has become

Bush the elder left Clinton in a no win situation in Iraq.
The sanctions and no-fly zones were a result of his call for internal revolt followed by his complete lack of support. Bush Sr. didn't want to press the war further, but he didn't want to sue for peace. That left Clinton with no clear exit (just as there was no clear exit to Somolia after Bush Sr. kicked that tarbaby). When you want to play the blame game it's Bush and Bush in first and second place. Clinton was a distant third.

Watch Iraq as we leave them to do their own thing. All of their enemies will scurry as the populace take back their country.
Vietnam taught a good lesson. Our opponents were willing to go through tens of their opponents for their country.
They outlasted us and now are thriving.
Try imposing Bush's will on the Iraqis and they will last another 2 generations to get their nation back.
Saddam was very bad, but he is gone.
Now George remains, for his brief time in our horrible history. He will be gone, and Iraq will reclaim its sovereignty. They are brave folks. They have and are proving it every day.
The British learned it about America some time ago.
Just my opinion. History is a cool thing for those who can still read.
