My problem with the death penalty is that it seems illogical to impose it after keeping the condemned on ice for 25 years while he exhausts all his appeal opportunities. At that point, it becomes cruel and unusual. It is also very expensive, even more so than keeping the condemned on ice for the rest of his natural life.

On the positive side, once imposed, the death penalty prevents recidivism. Ronald Reagan once enumerated a long list of people who died because a murderer got off the hook.
