to my knowledge, a death penalty never stops a person from commititng a crime that deserves it. I find it very unlikely that such a criminal would think "hey, do I die or live in prison for the rest of my life", before commiting the crime.

I agree...It is VERY expensive to house a murderer for 25+ years before his/her date with the Death Penalty....

But looking at the other costs involved, with letting a person who has murdered one or more people and if let out of prison, will probably kill someone else, hopefully be caught, and then the citizens incur the cost of a 2nd trial, but back to prison for the murderer....etc.

Compared to more potential murders committed by this person, it seems more sensible for him/her to receive the death penalty....at least we know where they are. Unless they escape.

On the positive side, once imposed, the death penalty prevents recidivism.
