You are correct about the history. Conservatives were once isolationist and some - like Lindbergh and Ford - were Nazi sympathizers.

But conservativism and liberalism of the '40's through early '60's bear little resemblance to conservatism and liberalism of today.

Now liberals are isolationists and anti-progressive. And it is a conservative president who is seeking to spread democracy while liberals oppose it.
