all of it will increase demand for broadband backbone. the info (video, audio, maps, searches, text etc.)has to move somehow. wireless and all the other access technologies are front ends. the reason it's different now is that there is mass demand for the internet. those who said in 2000, "if we build it they will come" were right but their timing was off.

btw, bwng is breaking out today. check the yearly chart....

Exactly what affect does GOOG's sales of internet ads have on their business?

Not much.

Elroy this just isn't true. A new revenue stream for the "same old" companies can be more powerful as a paradigm shift than a new product. The classic example of this was Dell.

Now that we have internet advertising that works, including the partner programs, whole areas have opened up which were not viable before - blogs for example are now profitable whereas in the past nobody could figure out how to drive print media to the net and make it pay (people won't pay subscriptions for web content, or very rarely they will).

One thing that is apparent to everybody but the most fervent bears is the increased level of cynicism towards the market and these tech stocks. Google is the absolute worst in terms of cynicism. I tried to post on the gorilla game thread yesterday about Google. Google's local ads platform is a huge viral opportunity, its really a platform, with services and retail moving quickly to adopt it. All I got back on the GG thread was a quick statement that GOOG was not a gorilla and an article about the inevitable fall of Google. sheesh.
