A logical approach is to introduce conservation and to encourage high-mileage-per-gallon-of-gas cars and encourage industry to find non oil sources for fuel.

I'm not sure what you mean by "introduce conservation", its not like it is a new idea, or an idea that hasn't been implemented or one that doesn't continually get implemented in new ways.

Its not logical to drill in areas that are adjacent to tourist areas that depend on the scenic beauty that surrounds them to bring in revenue.

"Adjacent" is in many cases not true, or only true if you take a rather expanded view of the term "adjacent".

It is not logical to spoil the natural settings of our national parks.

A rather irrelevant point since no one is proposing to spoil the natural settings of national parks.

Re: But I don't recommend specific drilling locations be part of a grand "national policy" or a major "national goal". I recommend rather that much decisions not be made as part of some grand national goal. Even politically made decisions don't have to be part of some major national goal, and many of the decisions on things like what types of cars to produce, don't have to be, and shouldn't, be made by the government.

I'm sorry that does not make sense to me. Are you saying such goals should be assigned under states' rights?

No, at least not in general. In most cases I would rather say that there should be no overall goal imposed by government at any level.

Tim

What the RepugniCONS want to do with the National Parks and our public land is probably the same as the timber industry has done to much of the Pacific northwest. If you just stay on the highway, it seems as if you're surrounded by forests. If you drive down a logging road OFF the highway about 300 yards, you'll see clearcut devastation. Since the fatassed RepugniCONS rarely get out of their cars or off the highway, it'll WORK for them.
