Let us not lose sight of the argument. There are some weapons that ought reasonably to be prohibited to the general public--and in particular to children, retards, prisoners, and politicians.

That wasn't the argument as far as I was concerned. I specifically referenced "assault weapons". It is quite possible for their to be desirable, rational, and constitutional regulations against owning certain weapons. That doesn't mean all such restrictions would be all of those things or even any of those things. My contention was that the assault weapons bans wasn't desirable or rational, and was of dubious constitutionality. I responded because it was on your list of regulations that you considered beneficial.
