We also waged a "cold war" for many decades and by most accounts won the conflict. There were many deaths associated with the cold war most Americans were never aware of. Deaths beneath the sea, and deaths associated with clandestine operations around the globe. It will take the same sort of effort to largely rid the world of terrorists. Unfortunately, we will probably have to live with lone or small group nut-cases for a long time. And do what we can to protect ourselves against their desire to see their name on the front pages. That's the main reason I'm so affronted by America's liberal MSM efforts to promote the terrorists by calling the "insurgents". They are butchering killers who think nothing of slicing the throats of innocent people, or blowing up children as they are being held by their mothers on a street corner. The most dedicated among them will have to be captured or killed, the rest may be dealt with by destroying the organization and support networks around them, or by helping to create an environment which gives them hope, while seeking humane goals for the future direction of their life. It appears they went overboard in Jordan recently and lost quite a bit of luster with the local population. They've also lost much of their lure in Afghanistan and Lebanon. The war will proceed that way. Sudden movements forward, coupled by difficult set-backs, lined with steady progress toward democratic values. One country at a time, until most of the world sees the terrorists for what they truly are. And that's nothing but murderers who desire power at the cost of everyone else's freedom. I can be accomplished, if we have faith in ourselves and pull together as a nation to support the effort. Politics is unfortunately largely preventing that from happening now, and I believe it is costing us time and precious lives. If the terrorists in Iraq truly believed our country was united to achieve victory in Iraq, they would be far less inclined to give up their lives for the suicide bomb cause. That's why my arguments have been about "what team are you on". Because, whether you agree with the decisions of war in Iraq or not, it's clear our democratic system supports the effort. 403-3 is not even close, so quit harping and look for ways to help out. Every American can do something, and for that matter every citizen living in a civilized nation can do something to help our troops achieve victory over the terrorists tying to prevent the Iraqi people from having a democratic, free nation. They just have to decide what's more important, political points, hatred toward Bush, hatred toward America, or victory over terrorists? It's as straightforward as that.
