I think the chimp KNOWS he's got to reduce the troop levels in Iraq before the 2006 elections. So, the troop levels will be coming down, no matter what happens, and that's a GOOD thing.

Every Repugnican running doesn't want their opponent beating them over the head with Iraq. If the chimp loses either house of Congress, his Presidency will end in a chorus of embarrasing investigations into the malfeasence that's been concealed by his party. Any initiatives he has left (if any) will be totally dead, and he'll probably have to spend the two years just running and hiding from questions.

"I'm a little bemused by the current "stay the course" PR offensive from the WH, dutifully echoed here with requisite accusations of treason against any who question said course. The question that comes to mind on the "stay the course" front is, what course would that be? "

Ditto. It should be "stay the chaos", not the course. Those competent white guys i earlier put so much trust in are now quite obviously anything but that. I believe that there still is time for a good if not perfect or what was expected outcome but I probably have less confidence than others in that possibility because i have been around the block twice with Rummy, Cheney, and the boys. I dont believe that the war itself made this inevitable but whether that is the case or not, these guy's lack of creativity if nothing else hurt us big time.
At this point the only hope of even the opposition is some sort of united federal not too oppressive state. I hope that is the outcome but it is far more likely to end up with Iraqoslavia with on tahe one hand Talibanstine as one of the states and little Persia on the other. And only God knows what happens in the area once Kurdistan is independent.
Did anyone happen to see Russ Feingold with Stephanopolous? He is a true independent and very creative in his approach to FP. Mike
