.......... As Rob Hughes of the International Herald Tribune, said today: “In the past 50 years, soccer has produced five celestial players: Alfredo Di Stefano of Argentina; Pele of Brazil; Johan Cruyff of the Netherlands; Diego Maradona of Argentina, and Georgie Best of Northern Ireland.”

I got the chance once to see Cruyff play. Lucky me. But never Best. Oh well.

There was a death watch for weeks as George lay dying in London. The whole of Britain mourned in advance.
