Initial reports were that each Walmart would have 150 to 200 units for sale. Reality was the number was much less. I was in Beaumont for Thanksgiving, and the police had to use pepper spray on the crowd over this item. Walmart and/or HP really flubbed it. Given the degree of national exposure, it was pretty much a given that there was going to be demand.

A complication factor in Beaumont was that Lake Charles still has a lot of stores that haven't opened due to damaged infrastructure. So Beaumont was drawing people from east of Lake Charles to Beaumont. So crowds were much larger than usual.

As an aside, it looks as if HP and Walmart are sizing each other up to take some marketshare from Dell. That might have some interesting implications.
