Maybe not today, but in my youth, it was pretty normal. I remember my brother Bill who served in the Pacific theater in WWII. He came home telling me about some of his comrades that were killed over there. One I remember was only 14 but big for his age and lied about his age to join the Marines. People then were PROUD of their service and fought to get in. During WWII my oldest brother was 18 when he enlisted, next one was 17 and was able to join the navy with my parents signature, last one ran off at age 16 and joined the navy, they didnt find out till the war was over that he was UNDERAGE. haha. Course then he wasnt. I joined at 17 (nearly 18) oldest guy in our unit was 25 we called him THE OLD MAN. haha. Today, I call him the KID. hehe. jdn
