Bush sold the war using the easily understandable wmds. As it turns out, it would have been better if they were more forthcoming about the other reasons. But of course if they had been, the dems would have taken the opportunity to not support the war and not support it for all the wrong reasons. Mike

FWIW, I don't think Bush et al actually lied to go to war, but they did most certainly have a preexisting agenda wrt to Iraq prior to 9/11.

I'm sure it was on their "wish list".. if only to bring the entire matter to a close, rather than committing US forces to continue overflights and sporadic attacks against the intransigent Iraqi anti-aircraft batteries.

But there is no doubt that 9/11 re-prioritized their agenda.
