Balance of power in the oil region was key. A nascent democratic state was another. A projection of power by an easy win to intimidate moslem and/or arab extremists from taking us lightly is a third. But wmds are the easiest for the people to understand. When there were no wmds the case for war that was made appears weak. It wouldnt have been if they place equal weight on the others. Bush didnt lie--it was a marketing campaign for war that went awry. But i dont believe it was intentional lying just a bid of exaggeration and stressing the most saleable of the reasons. mike
