"They were nearly all gung ho for attacking Saddam."

I'm not sure who "they" are! The chimpistration DID think it would be over in a few months. The chimp even declared "Mission Accomplished" from a carrier deck. Wolfowitz claimed that the Iraqi oil money would mean that the "invasion would pay for itself". Cheney claimed we'd be greeted as "liberators". They ALL beat the fearmongering drums LOUDLY in the angry, scared climate after 9/11 and castigated critics as "anti-American" and even "traitors"!

( Henry Waxman's been keeping track, saving them from the memory hole! )

"Number of Misleading Statements. The Iraq on the Record database contains
237 misleading statements about the threat posed by Iraq that were made by
President Bush, Vice President Cheney, Secretary Rumsfeld, Secretary Powell,
and National Security Advisor Rice. These statements were made in 125 separate
appearances, consisting of 40 speeches, 26 press conferences and briefings, 53
interviews, 4 written statements, and 2 congressional testimonies. Most of the
statements in the database were misleading because they expressed certainty
where none existed or failed to acknowledge the doubts of intelligence officials.
Ten of the statements were simply false."

The chimpistration makes it's own reality, and then remakes it, constantly, as actual reality juts in. Like people who've bought a crap car they liked, the Bush voters REALLY want it to be sound and worthwhile!
