Ha! You're right. I conveniently ignored the rest of his "if we have to ever pay taxes again, the U.S. won't be competitive..."
He wants no taxes and cheap labor. He's got a bully pulpit. He wants more H1B's too.

Anyway, our schools (higher education) are still better than China and India, but we'll have an issue if we don't work hard to stay better. At least there Barrett puts some money where his mouth is, Intel sponsors the former Westinghouse prize. Puts a carrot out there for some aspiring scientists.

Barrett will be retiring to Montana soon. OTOH, he didn't say what was wrong with the schools or students. Funny, huh?

"As for schools, Chinese and Indian schools are no better than ours, the difference is, they only educate the top candidates."

There's another difference Lizzie. They each have a population pool of over a billion to draw those "top candidates" from, vs. our 300 million. China graduates more engineers in a year than we do in ten.

I think college should be free here to anyone capable of doing the work, paid for by the government through taxes. I'm sure we're losing a great deal of low-income talent. The Bushies are reducing the available loan and grant money, which will just make our competitive situation even worse.
