Who are the representatives of the liberal community? I tend to notice the biggest mouths, of course. But I also see those big mouths look like the most popular - they are treated with honor and respect and quoted by pretty much most of the rest that I can see. And I see out in the world the Michael Moore's get invited to places of honor and receive cheers, the Howard Dean's getting the DNC chair, etc. I conclude that 15-20% of the population really are extremist leftwingers.

Re. 3 states, there is a political process going on in Iraq and institutions are being created by the Iraqis. The majority of the Iraqi population have voted for the process and the institutions and constitution resulting from it despite threats of terrorist attacks. Iraq is moving toward a federal type state with an elected gov't and free political parties. If Iraq ever separates into three states, it will be becasue the Iraqis choose that in some manner - Schumer's opinion is irrelevant.

Re. a timetable, we are there under a UNSC mandate which currently ends Dec. 31, 2006. That mandate may or may not be extended depending primarily upon what the Iraqi gov't wants. The issue of foreign troops and how long they stay should be (and will be, I'm sure) determined by the Iraqi gov't.

The folks pushing for a Congressional-set timetable are playing politics with foreign policy and security issues. I don't like that at all.
