I don't know what the direction of this country is, although I do agree that failure to assimilate, and intentional disregard for the customs of the host country, should no longer be tolerated here.

I dont feel in any way that this is the majority view of any particular ethnic group, as I believe peopel come to this country to better their lives and their families opportunity, rather than to overthrow it.

Five killed as clans clash in Gaza
Reuters ^ | 12/03/05 | Reuters

Corrects death toll in headline to read "Five killed as clans clash in Gaza" instead of "Four killed as clans clash in Gaza".

GAZA (Reuters) - Five Palestinians, including a policeman, were killed and many were wounded, some seriously, on Saturday as members of two rival clans clashed in a fierce firefight in Gaza, local medics and witnesses said.

Palestinian security forces were having difficulty restoring calm and mediators and bystanders were also wounded as bullets and grenades flew in a neighborhood of the town of Beit Hanoun in north Gaza.

It was a further example of lawlessness in the Gaza Strip, seen as a testing ground for future Palestinian statehood after Israel withdrew from the coastal territory last September following 38 years of military rule.

The motive for the clash which began on Friday was unclear, but medics said at least five of some 40 wounded were in critical condition as rival family members used assault rifles and rocket propelled grenades in the clash.

Witnesses said the policeman was killed by a stray bullet which hit the police station in which he was situated. Many families fled their homes in fear of being hit by stray bullets as gunmen took up positions on rooftops.

Bolton Says Palestinian Resolutions Demonstrate UN Irrelevance

Dec. 1, 2005 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. Ambassador John Bolton said the United Nations General Assembly demonstrated its irrelevance today by adopting six resolutions on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, including non-binding calls for Israel to withdraw from the West Bank and Golan Heights.
The General Assembly, consisting of all 191 member governments, passed resolutions very similar to measures introduced annually by Arab nations for at least 30 years. The U.S. was joined by no more than seven other nations in rejecting the resolutions, which won up to 160 votes.
``These resolutions are purely symbolic,'' Bolton told reporters at the UN. ``It is one reason why many people say the UN is not really useful in solving actual problems. We have been making enormous progress toward solutions in the Arab-Israeli conflict, and that progress has benefited from UN participation, but it does not benefit from needless repetition of meaningless resolutions in the General Assembly.''
Bolton, who has pressed UN member governments to reduce the number of General Assembly resolutions, said it was up to them to ``decide they want to do things that are relevant.''
