"Clark gets elected President in '08 because of his military credentials and the war goes on and on and on..."

Good chance of that. The problem is we have no good solutions any more. What Clark needs to do is something that can't happen. He needs to be able to go to Iraq and talk to the officers and get candid answers. No one will be candid because that is a career limiting move. Look at what happened to those generals who spoke the truth before we invaded, all were summarily drummed out of the military.

I'd give Clark a little more credit than that. He somehow got us through the Clinton Balkan rescue without a single American casualty. I think he'd do much better than the chimpistration, being competent, but he is still a military man. There may be no fixing the mess Bush has made. We seem intent on turning Iraq into Lebanon. Even Ronnie Ray Gun bailed on Lebanon..

What a disaster it would be if the real winner in Iraq turned out to be Iran, a country that supports terrorism and opposes most of what we stand for. Surely, we can summon the wisdom, resources and bipartisan leadership to change the American course before it is too late.

Clarke has little chance in my opinion...but it's amazing to note how the course of the discussion has moved from cocky neo-con self assurance to the resignation of those who have inherited their mad plans...

A scenario that wouldn't shock me... Clark gets elected President in '08 because of his military credentials and the war goes on and on and on...

I think everything is a mess and anything is possible including a coup d'etat. What is clear to me is that we have a lot of leaders suffering from severe paranoia. I am not sure whether its physiologically induced or psychological but its a real problem. I don't think even half would pass a psychologist's test.
