Hollow, two-faced doubletalk is one of the big reasons I no longer work in government public affairs. I did five years under Republican presidents and 8 years under Clinton, and didn't see much difference between the two groups when it became to being mealy-mouthed, evasive, self-serving, lying little creeps when it suited their purposes.

And Dowd is right, it was always totally transparent. I didn't appreciate how revolting it was too until I was out of the game and watching from outside.

Liberals would do a lot better emphasizing what Clinton did right instead of trying to parse away what he clearly did wrong, IMHO. He smoked some dope and screwed around unashamedly - bad on him. It was less than what America expects from a national leader, and he handled the issues badly.

Does it equate to what Bush and Cheney and Rice are doing to America's image around the world? Of course not. But the basic methodology is the same.
