LOL, living in the Third World reminds you how much you rely on government services. When roads disintegrate, the police don't care or lack the ability and equipment to respond to a problem and a zillion other things you just take for granted in developed countries. Like going across a border without having to convince the immigration cop that you really aren't going to give him a bribe, and you will report him if he doesn't back off. ;<) Been there, done that, have ALL the T-shirts.
