Actually, that is not true. I loved the guy and thought the whole white water thing would go away. I had no more interest in seeing him fry than any of the current leadership in dc. I think the press has way too much access to top secret information. Freedom of the press has crossed the line since they can collect data in real time just as fast as the government. In most instances, they have better resources to collect information. Just witness Hurricane Katrina. The press had all the ice and water and intel and gas for themselves. However, I didn't see any of the news agencies sharing any of their own supplies.

I'm all for the freedom of information since it forces our government to check and balance our power. As much as I would like to see the CIA torture every jihadis in Iraq, they aren't really collecting data that is preventing new crimes at this point in time. I think it was effective at one point, but the marginal return on waterboards is no longer with us. When I was watching Saddam's trial, I could not help but to think it would be better not have the entire reputation of the US on trial for the war crimes against the Baathists 5 or 10 years from now.

I think everyone can look past the reports of torture if Rice can convince our Allies that we are willing to step back from the torture. Hell, we can always start the beatings if a new war breaks out or let the Iraqi government take over the beatings for us. They have no civil rights in Iraq to protect. CNN is not going to be there to report inhumane prison conditions a year from now. Let them take care of the prisons and torture centers to interrogate their own criminals, if that's how they choose to deal with their own people. It would be good to get the blood off of our hands with the elections coming up in 1 weeks. I think the Sunnis will miss the fair treatment of the US military as a whole once we are no longer there to maintain some civility.

I certainly support our position to help the Shi'a government launch counter attacks against as many insurgents as we can find for the next year or two. In perpetuity, as far as I am concerned. However, we should not let our military have civil powers in Iraq they would never be allowed to assume in this country once the Constitution is ratified and the elections have been held. Let the "Islamic church state" take care of their own legal problems. We need to stand behind them to make sure the government does not fall and to protect the geopolitical balance of power with Iran becoming a royal pain in the ass. However, I'm glad to see the US finally deciding to announce once and for all the Army and the CIA are just about done with the torture chambers.

The end to the war will be the transition of Iraqi terrorism to Iraqi gang warfare in a domestic sense. Iraq needs to take care of it's own problems, with the least amount of US support.
