It was more philosophical in nature, but I'm equally willing to discuss the practical side of taxes.

I'm "a low tax guy" for both for philosophical reasons and for the practical reasons you mention.

But i think trying to fund a war with deficits over time will backfire and the legislature not at least trying for a fair pro growth tax, spending, & deficit compromise is not a good thing.

As a percentage of GDP this war is one of the cheapest wars of any seriousness that we have been involved in. But sure it does add to deficits. Its just that the real problem with deficits is more the ninety something percent of federal spending on things other than the war in Iraq. Bush is similar to Johnson in this sense. He wants to pay for "guns and butter" at the same time without a tax increase.
