They are all at fault Kris. And our government looked the other way and actually encouraged all this nonsense.

I still get solicited on a daily basis with these ridiculous 1% pay rate for 30 yr bs. Refinance my high mortgage (now 4.8% fixed) cash out a bunch tax free and payments on $300k mortgage of only $750/month..

They playing on a new generation of suckers. Full page adds in the paper for new affordable starter condos for $300k with monthly payments on your mortgage for less than rent.. Of course the unsuspecting fools buying this stuff don't realize the accrued interest, RE taxes, insurance, HOA dues and upkeep almost triple their payment or that these condos would only have been worth $50-70k in the late 1990's..
