Just got some quotes for builing in Mexico. >100/sq ft.

I know all about the Gringo price. You don't want to buy or build in a country which has such primitive property laws with a long history of Socialist government. Sounds like you are being quoted what it costs to pay off some official for permits and to gain free and clear title. Mexico is one of those countries where it is almost impossible to buy a property with a clear title even if you were born there. Better to rent since in most cases your title won't hold up in their courts anyway.
