Reason does not equal valid legal premise under the Constitution. Presidents can find a reason to do anything they like - if Bush has a good reason to postpone the 2006 elections, would you weigh the merits of the issue before deciding whether he was justified and the decision should stand?

That's an extreme example but it is designed to separate issues of principle from pure pragmatism.

Maybe I should ask, what principles do you believe should underpin the power of the federal government? You don't seem to think the Constitution is a very important guide so I am curious what is.
