Well, I probably qualify over here then. I have no idea which way I'll vote, since I can find compelling reasons to rule out all the major three here and all the noticeable fringe parties also, and in my relatively short voting life I have already voted four different ways in different elections...

a simple criterion would be people who are open to voting for any party in the 2008 elections, instead of knowing they will stick with the team they always vote for.

Another simple criterion is supporting one's team when that team betrays the party platform.

I watched in amazement the way self-proclaimed conservatives continued to support Bush's clearly non-conservative actions. I can understand vociferously supporting an office holder of one's party who upholds one's ideology. When the office holder, though, diverges from the ideology and the choice is between supporting the ideology and supporting the party, I just can't begin to relate to supporting the party over the ideology, yet herds of folks did that with Bush.

If I had to define nonpartisan, a simple criterion would be people who are open to voting for any party in the 2008 elections

That's one reasonable definition if not the only one. However I would change that "any party" to "either major party". Many centerists would be reluctant to vote for say the Socialist Workers Party.
