"You got the feeling that they had just seen the difference between the REAL Iraq, and the FANTASY Iraq that Bush was promoting, and they felt it was critical to prepare the American people for what is probably going to be a disaster... very soon."

And they probably were soft-peddling the real situation because it is so at variance with what we have been officially fed.

I saw the same pair on "Face the Nation" answering questions about Bush's domestic spying. They both thought it was an illegal overreach by the chimp. Graham is a Republican lawyer. Both pointed out that Bush could have done the same thing legally, and had ALL the authority he needed to do it. Under FISA, he can order wiretaps without a warrant if time is a factor, as long as he seeks a warrant within 72 hours. Not ONE FISA warrant has been denied. The chimp could have followed the law, but CHOSE not to.

re: Good! Its about time we got to the heart of the matter. The mainstream press.......the press we all rely on to insure that democracy is working.....is not free. Assuming they were once free, its disgusting how they have operated the past 5 years. Hopefully, that is changing........they need to be more like the British press.

I watched the Bush speech last night... well crafted, poorly delivered, and not an ounce of reality.

I was amazed that he was on the tube last nite. They are pulling out all the stops. I did not listen to him.....I refuse to listen to anything the dude has to say........but for a few minutes, I watched him trying to work with the teleprompter. After 5 years, he still doesn't know read it without looking like he's reading it. He must have no capacity for memorization.

Afterwards CNN had on Lindsey Graham and Joe Biden, who had just come back from Iraq observing the elections. These Rep/Dem guys both agreed 100% with each other, and gave a VERY clear picture of a country that is VERY close to a civil war. They said setting up a "democracy" in Iraq was a long shot at best (and it wouldn't be a democracy in the western sense). Said the next six months were critical... that we would know in six months how Iraq will go... civil war or some form of marginally effective central government.

Of course, nothing's different. They are trying to make it look like this election is the real thing......purple index fingers waving in the breeze. To have this election, they had to close down Baghdad and the other major cities completely for 4 days. That speaks volumes.

These guys were both dead cold somber and serious (not one smile between them). You got the feeling that they had just seen the difference between the REAL Iraq, and the FANTASY Iraq that Bush was promoting, and they felt it was critical to prepare the American people for what is probably going to be a disaster... very soon.

Slowly but surely, Bush is losing control over Congress. Thank the lord for that one.
