"A more relevant statistic than expense would be the size of the military." Nukes kind of render this moot. We'd NEVER be able to field as many men as China, our population is a fourth of theirs. But since they're IN China, they aren't really very threatening to us HERE. I thought you were discussing resources and effort put into building and supporting a country's military. My point is $ spent is not the best way to measure effort versus China, since their military salaries are probably ~1/20th of USA's, and same with cost of maintaining bases. No one was discussing who would win a battle.....
